How To

How to make wooden joints

This tutorial will show how to join 2 pieces of wood together. The "pocket hole joint" is a method whereby we drill holes into the wood and glue them together. This method is great if your wood's straight and smooth. Dowel joinery might be a better option if your wood is not straight or flat. These are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. You will need to measure and mark the exact location of your pocket hole joint. Next, drill 3/4 inch holes in each end of each piece using a handheld drilling machine or jigsaw.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the wood's edges will help ensure that the joint won't split later.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue to both sides of the wood. Let it sit for about 5 minutes before clamping the pieces together.
  4. Fix the Pieces together. After the glue has dried properly, clamp the pieces together to make sure they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries completely, trim off any excess wood around the joint.

Be sure to leave enough space between each piece so that they can be turned inside-out.
